School Holiday - Counted Cross Stitch for Beginners
Next Classes Begin:
September 2023, tickets not yet on sale
Two x two hour sessions
$70.00, includes all materials needed
Pre-requisite: The classes are recommended for ages 8 years and over.
Start your kids on their hand stitching journey in this class, learning all the basics of counted cross stitch.
This class is a perfect one for you to come along and learn a fun skill with your children (although you are welcome to just drop them off!), and I recommend it as being suitable for children aged 8 years and above.
Cross stitch is a great first step into learning embroidery, as it involves only a couple of simple hand stitches and their variations. It can be used to decorate garments, linen, and to create pictures
Kits using printed or stamped designs are readily available at hand craft stores, but in this class, you will learn how to do counted cross stitch which allows you to be a lot more creative with projects – you’ll only be limited by your imagination!
We’ll create a simple cross stitch project together which will allow you to learn the stitches you need as well as learning how to read a graph pattern. You’ll also learn about preparing your fabric and thread, choosing needles, starting, and finishing your stitching, and how to add embellishments – everything you need to start you on your cross-stitch journey!
Cross stitching is a calm, relaxing process which can help develop concentration and hand-eye coordination, creativity, and self-discipline – it also provides a great sense of achievement to see a finished project. Best of all it requires very few supplies, and so doesn’t cost a lot to get started.
The class cost includes a kit containing the fabric, thread, needle, embroidery hoop and pattern needed to complete your first project. All you need to do is come along on the day!
Recommended for ages 8 years and over, and it's perfectly suitable for Mum (or Dad) to come & learn at the same time

School Holiday - Applique
Four x 2.5 hour sessions
$140.00, includes all materials needed
Pre-requisite: The classes are recommended for ages 8 years and over who have basic sewing knowledge.
Applique is all about being experimental and having fun with your fabrics. It’s a great way to get creative – the only limit is your imagination!
Applique essentially means applying one piece of fabric to another to build up a design. It is often enhanced using different coloured or textured threads around the edges of the fabric motifs and can even be embellished with beads, sequins etc. It’s perfect for using up smaller pieces of fabrics, trims and threads from other projects to decorate clothing, cushions, bags and homewares and is also often used when making quilts.
You'll learn lots of new techniques and use some new textiles to extend your sewing knowledge, and we'll use your creations to make a bag or cushion cover to take home.
You can bring your own sewing machine to use if you prefer, or use one of our lovely computerised machines. You'll also be learning a little bit of hand stitching in this lesson.
