Got yourself a sewing machine, but not sure where to start? Join us for a sewing machine orientation session ...

Whether you have just bought a new machine, inherited an old one from Granny, or just dusted off the one from the back of your wardrobe - this course is for you!

Join us for this hands on orientation session (approximately 1-2 hours) where we'll set up you and your machine and then explore it's settings and functions - including what all those presser feet are for! You'll also learn basic maintenance skills to ensure you continue to get the best out of your machine in the future.

Once we've finished your machine orientation, you are welcome to spend the rest of the studio time sewing.

This course is suitable for absolute beginners who would like to know how to use a sewing machine.

Sewing FUNdamentals - Next Steps is a course suitable for those who have completed our beginner level class, or have some experience sewing but want to extend their garment-making knowledge

In this class we will work together to sew a garment of your choice. Along the way you will learn:

  • How to select sewing patterns and fabrics to suit your project
  • Pattern terminology, and how to make sense of instructions
  • Measuring, fitting and sewing techniques
  • Step by step garment construction
  • Tips and tricks to help you conquer your sewing goals

We start with an optional visit to a fabric store so you can learn to navigate the basics of sewing patterns, textiles, haberdashery and how to make good choices (which can be daunting for learners!). If all students are confident sourcing sewing supplies, we can skip this and start working on your projects in week one.

You will choose your project, pattern and fabrics then work through the sewing construction with guidance at every step of the way. You can bring your own sewing machine if you prefer, or learn on one of our lovely computerised machines.

Sewing FUNdamentals - Introduction to Overlocking

Got yourself an overlocker, but not sure where to start?

Join us for this hands on orientation session (approximately an hour) where we'll set up you and your overlocker and then explore it's settings and functions - including threading tips!

You'll also learn basic maintenance skills to ensure you continue to get the best out of your machine in the future.

Once we've finished your orientation session, you are welcome to spend the rest of the studio time sewing or practicing your overlocking skills
